Which restoration companies in Mississippi can we vouch for on evidence?

Yes. Mississippi has a ranked list, and 9 of the 11 companies we list are ranked. The Mississippi Secretary of State's business records carried them past the 70% coverage bar: we searched each company's exact name in its own city and logged the entity we found or a clear miss. The state board licenses residential remodeling over $10,000, so look up the license number before you sign.

51 companies reviewed in Mississippi, 11 met the listing bar, 9 of those scored here (evidence coverage of 70% or more). Ranked by Evidence Score.

Top 9 Restoration Companies in Mississippi (2026)

Key Takeaways

  • Water damage is on every listed Mississippi site, fire and smoke on 10 of 11, and storm work on 9 of 11. Mold is thinner, at 8 of 11.
  • No listed company states a response time, and none describes a warranty on its work.
  • Secretary of State records lifted 9 of 11 companies over the 70% bar. A website by itself stops below it.
  • Most work on homes hit by a natural disaster needs a contractor with a valid Mississippi license in the right classification.

Every company here passed our listing bar before anything was scored: a restoration service named on its own site, a working phone or contact route, a location we could read and a second source that agrees. Scores then come from fixed weights. An item we couldn't check gets zero points, and coverage, printed next to each score, tells you how much we were able to check. Reviews and star ratings play no part.

What the evidence shows

Built for storms and floods

Mississippi's list reads like a Gulf Coast list. Water damage appears on all 11 sites. Fire and smoke work follows on 10 of 11, and storm damage on 9 of 11, a higher share than most states we cover. Mold remediation drops to 8 of 11, so if mold is your problem, filter for it first. Sewage and biohazard cleanup is the gap: 5 of 11 document it.

The emergency basics are nearly universal. 10 of 11 say they answer around the clock, and the same number mention help with insurance claims. 8 of 11 offer free estimates. None is a franchise location.

Two things no site says

Here's the odd part. Not one listed Mississippi company tells you how fast a crew arrives, and not one describes a warranty on the finished work. Both items carry points on our scale. 7 of 11 name an industry standard such as IICRC S500 or S520, which is the company's own claim and scored that way, and none shows a third-party credential we could confirm.

So the ranked companies have a median coverage of 80% and a median score of 51. We could check most of what we looked for. A good share of it simply wasn't there. Ask about arrival time and guarantees on the first call, since the websites won't answer.

What the Secretary of State search added

We search the Mississippi Secretary of State's Business Reports service for each listed company, using the exact business name and the same city. A result is logged only when a single entity fits. A clean miss still counts as checked. That search is what moved the ranked companies over 70%, because a company's own website can't get there alone.

The same record supplies years operating, with a limit. We read the formation date as a founding date only for an entity formed in Mississippi. A company formed in another state and registered here gets credit for the registration, but its Mississippi filing date isn't treated as its age.

How to check a restoration company in Mississippi

Start with the State Board of Contractors. When we checked in September 2026, its FAQ said a license is required for residential remodeling or additions over $10,000, residential roofing over $10,000 and new residential construction over $50,000. Its public search finds a contractor by company name or license number.

After a hurricane or flood, the rule gets broader. The Board's disaster page says contractors must hold a valid Mississippi license in the appropriate classification to do most work on homes damaged or destroyed in natural disasters. It also says residential construction or improvement without a valid license is unlawful, and violators face a monetary penalty or suspension or revocation of their license. The Board keeps a violators database you can check.

Mold sits under the Board's Hazardous Materials classification, a commercial specialty whose scope covers mold remediation, asbestos abatement and lead paint abatement. The Department of Environmental Quality may add its own requirements. For a house built before 1978, MDEQ certifies lead renovators, and the firm that employs them must be certified too. MDEQ publishes the list, so you can check a crew's firm by name. We haven't logged state license, IICRC Certified Firm or EPA Lead-Safe checks for any Mississippi company, and each profile marks them Not verified.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Mississippi license restoration contractors?

The Mississippi State Board of Contractors licenses commercial and residential contractors. When we checked in September 2026, its FAQ said a license is needed for residential remodeling or additions over $10,000, residential roofing over $10,000 and new residential construction over $50,000. A water or fire job that turns into rebuilding can cross those lines.

Is there a Mississippi license for mold remediation?

The Board lists Hazardous Materials as a commercial specialty classification, and its scope covers mold remediation along with asbestos and lead paint abatement. The Board adds that the Department of Environmental Quality may have more requirements for that work. We found no official page describing a separate residential mold license, so we don't claim one.

How do I look up a Mississippi contractor?

Use the Board's public contractor search, which takes a company name or a license number. The Board also publishes a violators database for unlicensed activity. We don't check Mississippi licenses automatically yet, so every profile shows the state license item as Not verified.

Why are some listed Mississippi companies unranked?

Their coverage is under 70%. The registry search either couldn't tie them to one entity in the same city or didn't lift them far enough. An owner can send the registered entity name through our corrections page and we'll search again.
