Which restoration companies in Georgia can we vouch for on evidence?

None yet, on evidence we can check ourselves. 39 Georgia companies met our listing bar. The Atlanta area has its own page, and the 17 companies elsewhere in the state are compared in the table below. None reached 70% coverage, in Atlanta or outside it: a website on its own tops out at 69%, and no open-data registry or license file is wired for Georgia yet, so no company can be ranked. We don't lower the bar. Check any contractor's state and local licensing before you sign.

212 companies reviewed in Georgia, 39 met the listing bar (17 of them outside the city pages), 0 of those scored here (evidence coverage of 70% or more).

How we check companies in Georgia

Outside Atlanta: water and mold first

Metro Atlanta companies are on the Atlanta page. The 17 listed here work elsewhere in Georgia, and water damage is the one service all of them document. Mold is close behind, on 16 of 17 sites. After that the menus split: fire and smoke appears on 11 of 17, sewage and biohazard cleanup on 10 of 17 and storm work on 9 of 17. If a fallen tree or a torn roof is your problem, check that column before you call.

Insurance help is the most common promise past the services themselves, stated by 82% of sites. Round-the-clock service and free estimates are each stated by 13 of 17. That leaves a few companies that may book visits rather than send a crew at night, so if water is still coming in, start with the 24/7 column.

What the sites don't say

11 of 17 name an industry standard, usually IICRC S500 for water or S520 for mold. That's self-reported and scored as such, but it hands you a question for the first call: which standard applies to your damage, and how will they show they followed it.

Past that, the detail gets thin. Only 5 of 17 give a response time and 3 of 17 mention a warranty. No listed company outside Atlanta is a franchise location, so every score reflects one independent company's own site.

Why nothing here is ranked

A ranked list needs 8 companies at 70% coverage. A website can supply at most 69%, and the median company here sits right there. The last points depend on a third-party record such as a state business registry entry or a license file, and no open-data source of that kind is wired for Georgia yet. Until one is, every Georgia company stops at the same line, both here and on the Atlanta page. Sort the table by the service you need, pick a shortlist and run the licensing checks below.

How to check a restoration company in Georgia

Georgia's Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division says all residential and general contractors in the state must be licensed through the State Licensing Board. Plumbers, electricians and heating and air conditioning contractors are regulated by the Georgia Construction Industry Licensing Board.

The same page names specialty trades the state doesn't license: roofers, painters, drywall contractors and repair handymen. Those trades turn up on a lot of restoration jobs. Storm damage often means a roof, and water damage often ends with new drywall. A crew doing only that work may hold no state license, and that alone doesn't make it unlawful.

That's why the local check matters. The Division suggests contacting your county or city government to confirm a contractor has the proper local licensing, or to report someone working without it.

To look up a state license, the Division points to the Secretary of State's website. When we checked in September 2026, its route was Licensing, then Licensee Search, then the Building & Contractors tab.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Georgia require a state license for restoration or mold work?

The Georgia consumer pages we read in September 2026 describe licenses for residential and general contractors and for trades such as plumbing, electrical and HVAC. They don't mention a separate license for restoration or mold work, so we don't claim one exists. If your job includes rebuilding, ask which contractor license covers it, and check whether your city or county requires its own.

Why doesn't the roofer or drywall crew on my job have a state license?

Georgia's Consumer Protection Division says roofers, painters, drywall contractors and repair handymen aren't required to be licensed by the state. Your county or city may still license them, so check there.

How do I look up a Georgia contractor's license?

On the Secretary of State's site (sos.ga.gov), choose Licensing, then Licensee Search, then the Building & Contractors tab and Residential and General Contractors. That's the route the Attorney General's consumer pages give. We haven't logged any Georgia license lookups yet, so our profiles show them as Not verified.
