Which restoration companies in Indiana can we vouch for on evidence?
Indiana has an unranked table, not a ranked list. All 21 companies we list met the listing bar, but a rank needs 70% coverage, and evidence from a company's own website stops at 69%. Getting past that takes a third-party record, and there's no open-data registry or license file wired in for Indiana yet. We keep the bar where it is, so the 21 are compared side by side.
147 companies reviewed in Indiana, 21 met the listing bar, 0 of those scored here (evidence coverage of 70% or more).

Twenty-one Indiana companies cleared our listing bar, which asks for a restoration service named on the company's own site, a contact route that works, a readable location and a second source that agrees. Each is scored on the same fixed weights, and the coverage beside the score shows how much of it we could check. Items we couldn't check earn nothing. Coverage lands just under the ranking line across the board, so read the reasons in each row.

What the evidence shows
Broad service lists, few free estimates
Indiana's listed companies cover a lot of ground. Water damage appears on 20 of 21 sites, mold and fire and smoke on 17 of 21 each, and storm damage on 16 of 21. Sewage and biohazard cleanup is where the list thins out, at 11 of 21.
Emergency readiness is high: 19 of 21 say they run 24/7, and 16 of 21 mention insurance claim help. Free estimates are the odd one out. Just 7 of 21 offer them on their sites, so ask about the cost of an inspection when you call.
One listing is a franchise location. The rest are independent companies.
What you won't find on most sites
A response time is stated by 4 of 21 and a warranty by 3 of 21. Those two lines add points to a score, and most Indiana pages leave them out, so you'll likely need to ask.
13 of 21 name an industry standard, usually IICRC S500 for water or S520 for mold. We score that as a claim the company makes about itself. No listed Indiana company shows a credential we could confirm with a third party.
Stuck at 69%
Median coverage for the Indiana list is 69%, as high as a website can go. The final points come from records outside the company's control: a registry entry, a formation date, a license file. Indiana's Secretary of State runs a public business search, but it isn't part of our checks yet, so no company here can reach the ranking line.
How to check a restoration company in Indiana
Start local. When we checked in September 2026, the Indiana Attorney General said licensing requirements for home improvement contractors vary from community to community, and pointed homeowners to their city or county building department. That office can tell you the rules where you live and whether a contractor is licensed, bonded and insured.
Get the contract on paper. The Attorney General's storm chaser guidance says Indiana law requires home improvement contracts over $150 to be in writing. It lists what the contract should include, among them the price, the payment schedule and the start and finish dates.
Don't look for a state mold credential. A county health department page on IN.gov says neither Indiana nor any federal agency licenses or certifies mold investigators or remediators, so any certificate a mold company shows you comes from a private body.
If your house was built before 1978, ask about lead. The EPA runs lead renovation certification in Indiana and says anyone paid to disturb paint in older housing generally must be certified in lead-safe work practices.
INBiz, the Secretary of State's public search, shows whether a company is a registered business entity in Indiana. We haven't logged license, lead-safe or IICRC checks for any Indiana company, so profiles list them as Not verified.
