What the evidence shows

Fire-ready, light on sewage

Northern Virginia sites cover the big three well. Water damage is on all 16, fire and smoke on 15 of 16, and mold and storm work on 13 of 16 each. Sewage and biohazard cleanup is the exception at 4 of 16, so a sewer backup in a finished basement narrows the list to a handful of names.

Paperwork promises are strong. 15 of 16 mention insurance claim help, 13 of 16 state 24/7 service and 12 of 16 offer free estimates. 13 of 16 name an industry standard such as IICRC S500, which we score as the company's own claim. No listing is a franchise location.

Nobody states a warranty

Not one of the 16 sites describes a guarantee on its work, and 5 of 16 say how fast a crew arrives. Those two gaps account for much of the distance between 78% median coverage and a median score of 53.5. Ask for both before you sign, and get the warranty terms in the contract.

Checking a company in Arlington

Virginia licenses contractors through DPOR's Board for Contractors. When we checked in September 2026, the Board said a license has two parts: a class, A, B or C, which sets the size of contracts a company may take on, and a classification or specialty for the type of work. Look the company up on DPOR's License Lookup and make sure both parts fit your job. We haven't logged DPOR checks for any company here, so profiles show that item as Not verified. The Virginia page has the rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a Virginia mold company need a certification?

For residential work, yes. Virginia's Consumer Protection Act, as amended in 2025, bars selling mold remediation for a home as a professional mold remediator without a certification from a nationally or internationally recognized certifying body, and requires the work to follow EPA mold guidance, ANSI/IICRC S520 or an equivalent standard.

Why might a newer Arlington company miss the registry check?

The SCC tables on data.virginia.gov are a snapshot. Corporations run to late 2024, and the LLC table holds no company formed after mid 2022. A newer LLC can come back without a match, which is a gap in the data rather than a mark against the company.
