There's no Michigan ranking yet. We list 43 restoration companies across the state, after reviewing 233 company websites; the Detroit area has a page of its own, and the other 23 are compared here. None can be ranked because a site alone gives at most 69% coverage, below our 70% bar, and no Michigan registry or license file is connected to our checks yet. We keep the bar where it is.
233 companies reviewed in Michigan, 43 met the listing bar (23 of them outside the city pages), 0 of those scored here (evidence coverage of 70% or more).

Michigan's list is broad. Every one of the 23 companies documents water damage, 19 of 23 handle mold and 17 of 23 take on fire and smoke. Storm damage appears on 14 of 23 sites and sewage or biohazard cleanup on 13 of 23. For most jobs, you'll have several companies to choose between.
Night calls are well covered as well: 20 of 23 state round-the-clock service. 19 of 23 say they work with insurance claims. Free estimates are rarer, on 10 of 23. None of the Michigan listings on this page is a franchise location.
Timing gets some attention here. 8 of 23 state how soon a crew arrives, and 5 of 23 describe a warranty. That's still a minority on both counts, so ask the rest to put their arrival time and any guarantee in writing.
13 of 23 name an industry standard, most often IICRC S500 for water or S520 for mold. We score that as the company's own claim. Since Michigan doesn't license mold cleanup companies, a named standard and a written scope are among the few things you can hold a mold contractor to.
Our scale has two halves: what a company says about itself and what someone else's records say about it. The first half can supply up to 69%, and the median coverage on this page is exactly that. The rest comes from sources such as a state business registry entry or a state license. Michigan keeps both, through LARA, but neither is wired into our checks yet. A ranking needs 8 companies at 70%, so the table stays a comparison. Companies in and around Detroit are on the Detroit area page.
LARA licenses residential builders and maintenance and alteration contractors, and it says any contractor offering residential work totaling $600 or more in labor and materials must hold its license. Look at the trades on a maintenance and alteration license: it lists what the holder may do, such as roofing, siding or basement waterproofing. A water or storm job that turns into a roof or basement repair should match those trades.
LARA's online license search covers both license types, for companies and individuals, by name, business name, license number or city. For the legal entity behind a company, LARA's Corporations Division keeps the documents filed by corporations, LLCs and partnerships and makes them public through its Business Entity Search.
Mold is unlicensed. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says the state does not license or certify companies for mold cleanup.
Two cancellation rules are worth knowing. The Home Solicitation Sales Act gives you three business days to cancel a contract made at your home for more than $25. If you agreed to pay a home improvement contractor over time, the Home Improvement Finance Act lets you cancel until 5 p.m. the next business day, according to the Attorney General's office.
For homes built before 1978, the EPA runs lead Renovation, Repair and Painting certification in Michigan. We haven't logged LARA license, IICRC Certified Firm or lead certification checks for any Michigan company, so every profile shows them as Not verified.
Michigan's Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) licenses residential builders and maintenance and alteration contractors. When we checked in September 2026, LARA said any contractor offering residential work totaling $600 or more in labor and materials must be licensed. A maintenance and alteration license lists the trades its holder may do, such as roofing, siding or basement waterproofing.
No. A Michigan Department of Health and Human Services fact sheet says the state does not license or certify companies for mold cleanup. Judge a mold company on its written scope and the standard it follows, not on a state credential.
Often, yes. The Attorney General's office says the Home Solicitation Sales Act gives you three business days to cancel when the agreement is made at your home and is worth more than $25. If you agreed to pay a home improvement contractor over time, the Home Improvement Finance Act allows cancellation until 5 p.m. the next business day.
