What the evidence shows

A broad menu across the metro

Most Atlanta-area companies do most kinds of restoration. Water damage and mold appear on 21 of 22 sites, fire and smoke on 18 of 22 and sewage and biohazard cleanup on 16 of 22. Storm work is the service to filter on, at 14 of 22, which matters after a tree comes through the roof.

The front-end promises are common too. 19 of 22 state 24/7 service, 18 of 22 mention insurance claim help and 15 of 22 offer free estimates. 16 of 22 cite an industry standard, usually IICRC S500 for water or S520 for mold. That's self-reported, but it gives you a specific question to ask: which standard applies to your damage, and how will they show they followed it.

What the sites leave out

8 of 22 say how fast a crew arrives, and 4 of 22 describe a warranty. None of the listings is a franchise location, and none shows a third-party credential we could confirm, because no Georgia record is wired into our checks yet. The median coverage of 69% is the most a website can reach by itself.

Checking a company in Atlanta

Restoration work often reaches into trades Georgia leaves to local government. Storm damage often means a roof, and a water job often ends with new drywall. A crew doing only that work may hold no state license, and that alone doesn't make it unlawful. The Consumer Protection Division suggests contacting your county or city government to confirm a contractor has the proper local licensing. In metro Atlanta that means the county or city where the property sits, which may not be the one where the company has its office.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a restoration company in Atlanta need a state license?

It depends on the work. Georgia's Consumer Protection Division says all residential and general contractors must be licensed through the State Licensing Board. It also names trades the state doesn't license, including roofers, painters, drywall contractors and repair handymen. We found no separate state license for restoration or mold work.

How do I look up a Georgia contractor's license?

On the Secretary of State's site, choose Licensing, then Licensee Search, then the Building & Contractors tab. That's the route the Attorney General's consumer pages give. We haven't logged Georgia license lookups yet, so profiles show them as Not verified.
